What is the normal rate of speaking at which our listener will be
able to understand us easily? How do I check my normal rate of speaking?
It has been observed that if we speak about 150 words in a minute, the
listener will be able to understand us easily. Speaking too fast will make it
difficult for the listener to understand. On the other hand; speaking too slow
will create gap in our mind between the rate at which mind can process
information and the rate at which information is supplied to the brain. This
mismatch will make the mind to wander.
To get the feel
of your speaking speed, read the following exercise to a partner. This piece
should be read in one minute comfortably and fluently. The passage should be
spoken with suitable pauses and stress where ever required.
The passage has
about 135 words.
Your Company’s Policy
Your
company has a public personality just like you have individual
personality. The company image should
strive to reflect:
CUSTOMERS are our most important people. We
depend on customers.
CUSTOMERS are not an interruption of our
work. They are purpose of it.
CUSTOMERS do us a favor when they call. We
are not doing them a favor by serving them.
CUSTOMERS are not numbers. They are human
beings with feelings like our own.
CUSTOMERS are people who bring us their
wants. It is our job to fill those wants.
CUSTOMERS are not people to argue with or
match wits with.
CUSTOMERS are deserving of most courteous
treatment we can give them.
CUSTOMERS are the people who make it
possible to pay your salary.
CUSTOMERS are the lifeblood of our
organization.
